Day 19 | Skoilden -Skjåk | 95 KM | 1771 HM
It was supposed to rain from 10:00, so we wanted to start early. The only problem was that we hardly had anything to eat. So we drive back to the village and wait until nine and the shop opens or do we leave with the few?
Six slices of crispbread 1x thumb thick cheese, a thumb long sausage, and nine muesli bars. With Hajo, that would be enough for Borders of Belgium once. For us it's more difficult.
Okay, but we'll give it a try.
Start at eight. The tent was already dry in the morning.
Still looking at the Wittgenstein Monument. A hand with a mouth.
Buying some extra calories at the petrol station.
They were all over the place. And, "all the way from Germany. You want to go up there? That's the (second) hardest pass in the north."
Alps are not a concept here. We'll make it.
The last place Fortun.
After one hour 500 +x HM done. Continuously 8-10 % plus minus 2.
Will the weather hold or will it close in?
Then we reach a mountain station. A little later we reach almost 1000 m.
It is drizzling. I continue with the service hatch open. The temperature is pleasant for us now. Meanwhile I am sitting in my sweat despite shaking out the mat in between.
The old Mercedes had overtaken us earlier.
I only see my wife in the distance. She is guaranteed to be waiting at the top.
Now it's getting wetter. We don't need much more. The top is where the top is. Finally we've made it. A short photo stop, put on the bolero for wind protection and off we go.
After a few kilometres we reach the Jotunheimen tourist restaurant. Actually closed. But we got tea for free. We sat in the sun, sheltered from the wind, and I could dry my wet trousers on my skin.
At first the dog wanted to hide from us behind the pillar. Then he plucked up courage.
After that we went downhill for a long time with the father and two sons from Dortmund.
One of them did Wheelee uphill. The father was quite interested in velomobiles.
The stave church in Lom was still on our programme. Definitely worth a visit if you want to get an impression of the Viking Age.
Our camp host. Nice guy. As cyclists, he gave us a discount of 170 NOK all inclusive. 250 NOK we already had a few times. Course 1:12.
