Day 1 | 188 KM | 593 HM
At 6:30 am we set off on our long journey to the North Cape and back. At the beginning it was still drizzling and the sky was overcast. Nevertheless, it was quite humid and without any effort we had to sweat a bit. Our velomobiles tomorrow each weighed almost 50 kilos with the luggage. That was unusual again and more strenuous than normal. On the B 252, the East-Westphalia Road, we made good time until after Brakel. A little uphill to Löwendorf, with the Köterberg greeting us from afar, and then downhill to Hameln in gentle waves. Slowly, the holiday feeling set in. Another stretch to Rinteln and via Todtenmann directly into Bückeburg. A coffee at the Italian restaurant at 11:00. Now it was only 75 km to Jens Buckbesch. The kilometres were now just flat. My cassette, which I had changed two days ago, was giving me a bit of trouble. It rattled and every shift was clearly audible. All this indicated that I hadn't pulled the cassette tightly onto the freewheel. But it should work as far as Jens' place. When I arrived there at about 15:00, the first thing I did together with Jens was to take out the cassette, pull it tight and put it back in. Then I took a shower and had some coffee. Later Jens cooked for us, i.e. on the wok. It was a very nice evening and finally we had time to talk for a while.
