Day 22 | Herjastrande - Valsøya | 133 KM | 1257 HM
Statistically, there must be days like this. Heavy rain at night. In the morning overcast and rain forecast. Everything packed up dry.
Rolled to the ferry to Sølsnes.
First on a lonely road. Then BRouter made a completely nonsensical suggestion. Steepest gravel road.
Then rather take the E39. Also goes over a ridge, but smooth to drive there are already some trucks to Trondheim, but all better than the forest road.
What are the Ms and Ms ... for? Standing next to the road for a while. Swerving point.
To Batnfjordsøra. There we went to a selected place. Bunker Oil is the name of the petrol station. Biggi wants a hot dog. I take one too. The man from the Middle East is fully motivated. The couple behind is just - take your pick.
We sit like in a diner.
That's when it started to rain. Put the lid on and off we go. Everything is easy.
The steering has play again. The rivet wasn't enough. I thought, why isn't there anything stronger? I probably would have had to glue the steering shaft with Loctite and then put the rivet in. Or a screw.
Then the Gjemnessundbrua.
You can go up in the pylons.
That's where it hangs.
What else happens? It rained once heavily and otherwise steadily. When we phoned for a cabin within a radius of 50 km, everything was occupied. Then we decided to drive to the next camping site. On one exit, my A7 got a shaking fit. The rivet was through? Exactly. Zero steering. Braked. Then put in an Allen key and secured it with Velcro. Egyptian repair, my mother would have said. Equal to improvisation. Same as before for now.
At the campsite they wanted to place us next to the rubbish. We set up next to the exquisite, seriously, kitchen. Inside lie the wet things and until we go to sleep, we stay in here.
