8 Tips to Travel More Sustainably

The topic of “sustainable travel” concerns more and more people, because time seems to be running out on our planet when it comes to the necessary transformation into sustainable living as a whole.

Mobility is an important area of the overall transition, but in which only very little progress has been made so far. That's why sustainable travel is an important contribution here.

We all want sustainability, but we also don't want to give up some of the luxuries and comforts we love because that's what we associate with vacation.

At Velomobile World we have been building velomobiles for more than 15 years, which we believe are ideal for vacationing in a sustainable way.

But first the question:

Is it even possible to travel sustainably without sacrificing relaxation, fun and comfort?

Our answer is clear: yes! And we want to show this using our velomobiles as an example.

1) In the past, many people thought of a successful vacation as a foreign travel with every conceivable comfort. In the wake of the Corona crisis, many people got to know the beauty of their own country and realized that you can also have a great vacation at home. Many people bought a Pedelec bike and experienced a completely new kind of vacation. We believe that a velomobile is the best way to go on a cycling holiday and is most sustainable.

2) A velomobile has incredible driving efficiency. This means you can cover a large distance a day with little effort and without overexerting yourself. This means that with a velomobile you can in many cases reach the destinations of a holiday trip on your own and therefore do without the car as a means of transport for the bicycles. This makes a vacation like this even more sustainable.

3) Many people who have tried to go on holiday by bike have painful experiences: after just a few kilometers their bottom hurts and they have tension in their shoulders. So they only last for short distances and then need their car again to get to the next destination. You don't have that problem when riding a velomobile: you sit comfortably in the seat and your head leans relaxed in the head cushion. Even after many hours I have no problems with it and can cover long distances a day. As a result, you no longer actually need a car for a velomobile holiday.

4) A vacation on a normal bike depends on the weather; that can end badly. In a velomobile you are truly independent of the weather. You can even spend your breaks in the velomobile when it rains and eat in a relaxed manner. This removes any scare from the weather.

5) Do you know this: overloaded with panniers, cycling is no longer really fun. In a velomobile, on the other hand, you have a lot of space for luggage and it doesn't impair driving stability or aerodynamics. And your things always stay dry.

6) Older people in particular also have the option of driving a velomobile with an pedelec- drive. So mountains are no longer a problem.

7) What we hear again and again: Cyclists with velomobiles get to know other people incredibly easily on their journeys (e.g. on designated long-distance cycle paths). Such a velomobile attracts a lot of curious cyclists and you can be sure that you will make nice acquaintances along the way.

8) And: because riding a velomobile is so much fun, a holiday like this becomes a very active and sporting event. With the side effect that you will greatly improve your fitness and lose weight.
