Removing Front Wheel And Suspension

Front Suspension Maintenance

Front Suspension Maintenance Guide

Regular suspension maintenance ensures optimal performance and handling. The maintenance process focuses on several key areas of the suspension assembly.

Suspension Component Removal The front suspension removal process requires careful attention to prevent damage to components. Key removal points include: The suspension assembly is secured by two contra nuts at the top. Remove these using a 13mm wrench while ensuring components don’t fall into the velomobile body. When removing the speed sensor, carefully detach the tie wraps and protect the sensor cable. For easier wheel removal, consider releasing some tire pressure to provide more clearance.

Spring System Maintenance The spring system requires periodic inspection, particularly after extended use. Remove the dust cap assembly, including the rubber seal and metal washer. Inspect the springs for wear or damage, especially after 30,000-50,000 kilometers of use. The spring divider must be properly oriented during reassembly to ensure equal suspension length on both sides.

Alignment and Assembly Proper alignment during reassembly is crucial for optimal performance. The suspension components must be able to turn freely without axial play. When installing the dust cap, ensure the metal washer is oriented with the rounded edge facing upward. This orientation is critical due to the manufacturing process of the stamped washers.

Safety Considerations When using compressed air for maintenance, never look directly into the assembly to prevent injury. Proper alignment of all components is essential for safe operation and to prevent unwanted noise during use.
