How to lubricate the chain
The propulsion system requires regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance. Chain maintenance is particularly crucial – here’s the recommended procedure:
Start by thoroughly cleaning the chain using a solvent-dampened cloth (avoid acetone as it can damage paint finishes). Clean the chain by running it backward through the cloth. Follow with a clean, dry cloth to remove any remaining debris.
For lubrication, apply chain oil directly to the chainring. Turn the cranks to distribute the oil evenly throughout the chain. Shift through all gears to ensure the oil reaches every part of the cassette. After riding 1-2 kilometers, inspect the velomobile for any oil drips or spots.
Clean any oil spots immediately after they’re noticed. Excess oil attracts dirt and debris, which can transfer back to the chain, increasing wear and rolling resistance. Keep the drivetrain clean to maintain optimal performance and component longevity.
