Proper wheel maintenance enhances durability and performance. When replacing spokes, remove the rim tape first. Thread the new spoke through the hub and attach with the nipple, using Permabond A113 or similar thread locker. Target spoke tension should be between 1000-1200 Newton (122 kg), measured monthly with a calibrated tension meter.

After spoke replacement, install fresh rim tape in two layers to prevent punctures from spoke holes. Start at the valve hole, overlapping slightly for protection. When reinstalling the tire, properly align the valve to prevent tube damage. Check wheel true by spinning after assembly.
