Which cranks are best for you?

In a velomobile you want to keep the space as small as possible and there is a good reason for that. The smaller you keep the velomobile, the less drag you have through the air. Of course, the whole aerodynamics picture is more complicated, but briefly, the smaller an object is, the better it moves through the air.

That’s why we offer shorter cranks in a velomobile. We have 140, 150 and 155 mm cranks available. If you are shorter and you have smaller shoe size you can have the 155 mm cranks. If you have longer legs and bigger shoe size it is better to go with the 140 mm cranks. We can advice you with this, please fill in your data and we can help you. For more details click here.

Schlumpf Mountain Drive with Multicranks

Enhanced Climbing Ability: The substantial gear reduction allows for easier pedaling on steep inclines.

Shifting Mechanism: Shifting is achieved by pressing buttons located on either side of the crank axle, operated by the rider’s heel.

Multicranks: has by default three positions for the desired crank length.

Note: if you choose Schlumpf Mountain Drive with Multicranks you do not need to choose a small chain ring from the configurator.

A wide range of gears or a low range of gears?

If you live in a flat area you don’t want to have a wide range of gears. You want a cassette with a low spread, in order you can shift gears with small steps, so you can find the right cadence, which is the best for you.
If you live in a hilly area or mountainous area, you need a bigger spread of gears, otherwise you can’t climb the hill you want.

We have made a table for you with which gears you can cycle at what speed.
To make the table easier to understand we fixed a couple of things. It is the best to have a cadence about 90 RPM, if you have a cadence below 90 RPM you can have a higher chance of injuries of your knees. This is a velomobile but also a conventional bicycle.

For the Bülk we have a rear wheel of 584 and we take a 28mm rear tire for the calculations.
