The rear suspension system integrates with the wheel assembly for both support and drive functions. For maintenance access, start by setting the chain to the smallest gear to minimize tension, then completely remove the chain from the front chainwheel.
When removing the rear wheel, use a 19mm wrench (available through our website and provided to ambassadors). Note that the rear axle nut requires clockwise rotation for removal – opposite to standard threading. This nut is secured with Loctite to prevent loosening during operation.
For wide-range cassettes (11-52), additional steps are required: remove the rear suspension by taking off the nut and washer, then remove the rear derailleur. This allows sufficient clearance to lower the swing arm and access the wheel assembly. When reassembling, check the bushings – the larger one goes on the drive side, the smaller one on the opposite side.
Maintenance of the freewheel mechanism is crucial. If the pulse pins aren’t functioning correctly or are contaminated, especially in cold conditions, it can lead to slipping. Regular cleaning and proper lubrication of these components ensures reliable operation.
