Hello everyone,
If you’re reading this, chances are you’re curious about velomobiles. That’s good news because I was too, and it changed the way I ride.
I’m 51 years old, and cycling has been part of my life since I was 8. I raced my first competition at 9 and spent years riding at the national Elite level in France. Road, cyclocross, mountain biking (XC and enduro), track, and my specialty, time trialing, have all been part of my journey.
In 2018, after 35 years of racing, I hung up my bib number. But I never gave up the bike. These days, you’ll find me exploring long-distance routes and planning bike-packing adventures. Living at the foot of Mont Blanc means winter can be a challenge so usually I switch to ski touring from November onwards. But with the Bülk, that might just change…
I had been intrigued by velomobiles for over 20 years. The concept, a pedal-powered, enclosed, aerodynamic machine, was fascinating. But it wasn’t until I stumbled upon some YouTube videos that the spark reignited. A few hours later, I found the Bülk. It was everything I had imagined: light, compact, efficient, with real luggage capacity and to my eyes, absolutely beautiful.
Of course, it was a significant investment. I wouldn’t commit without trying it. That’s when I met Sébastien Dussac in Lausanne, Switzerland. He was touring Lake Geneva in his Bülk and kindly let me take a seat inside. It felt right from the start.
Now, fast forward just over a year and I’ve already covered more than 15,000 km through France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Italy.
I use my Bülk exclusively for leisure-long rides and travel, not commuting. And after all those kilometers, my impressions are crystal clear:
-
Comfort: Nothing compares to it.
-
Protection: All-weather riding is now a reality.
-
Luggage space: I can carry what I need for real adventures.
-
Year-round usability: No need to pack the bike away when temperatures drop.
On the performance side, the Bülk continues to impress me. I’ve noticed just how efficient it is. At the same power output, my heart rate is lower than on an upright bike, and my speeds are higher especially on gentle slopes up to 2%. And yes, even in the mountains around Mont Blanc, the Bülk climbs steadily (albeit more slowly than my traditional bike).
In short: the Bülk has become my new companion for the road. It’s made for people who dream of going farther, faster, and more comfortably.
If you’re curious or just want to know more, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d be happy to share my experience and help you discover what it’s like to travel inside a Bülk.
