John Trites

Hey folks, I am a velomobile ambassador from Nova Scotia, Canada. I believe these vehicles are ideal for our region and our climate. They are immensely comfortable for long rides, fully suspended for comfort and versatility on our rural roads and provide all-weather protection to extend your riding season. Oh, and did I say they are fast? If you are interested in them, let’s talk. I can even arrange a test ride on one of the most advanced velomobiles in existence.

About me
I have been an avid cyclist since I was a kid. I have loved speed. I got really intense in cycling when I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes; there is, literally, no better exercise to manage diabetes than cycling. I got into recumbents when an old back injury started to catch up to me and have been cycling recumbent since 2010. Then I had an opportunity to acquire a velomobile shell to fit onto a Catrike Expedition. I have a Catrike Expedition as one of my trikes, so I bought the shell and built it during the Covid lock-down. I now ride it much more than the other trike and bike. I have completed a number of centuries on it, and routinely ride 50km for a daily training ride. I also made the decision, about a year ago, that if I don’t have to drive, I won’t. I live in a rural area and found that my recumbents, trike and velomobile, are highly practical as car replacements; I have put some 5000km on them this summer, while putting less than 2000km on the car.
As a board member of Bicycle Nova Scotia (Bikeways and Roadways Advocacy) I advocate for safer roads, cycling infrastructure, and alternative forms of cycling, like recumbent, that are more inclusive and accessible.
I am also a Professional Bike Mechanic recent grad, and will be focused on servicing recumbents. I will be taking a carbon-fibre fabrication course as well, so that I can also service velomobiles.

Designed for efficiency
The Bülk Distance is here!
Experience uncompromising aerodynamics meets everyday practicality. The fastest Bülk ever created features next-level CFD-optimized design, revolutionary “drag and grab” access technology, and the proven Bülk performance you trust.
Bülk MK1 Velomobile
After Eggert Bülk and Jens Buckbesch started the Milan project in 2005 (which is still running successfully today), they started a new velomobile project in 2021, the Bülk-MK1. It implements a new space utilization and aerodynamic concept. The findings from various wind tunnel tests were also taken into account. Jens documented every step of the Bülk-MK1 project, then he sent us very detailed info to create a page where you can discover the philosophy of the Bülk-MK1.
What is a velomobile
A velomobile is a human-powered vehicle related to the bicycle, for everyday use, with a body/shell that provides comfort, weather protection and luggage space. Due to the aerodynamically shaped bodywork, you can achieve a decent speed with little effort (30-50 km/h on flat road). Velomobiles are very suitable as commuter vehicles, for shopping or holidays, also are a good way to clear your mind while taking a tour or a road trip with your friends.
