My Alpha 7 has been and is a door opener to change my way of commuting and exploring the Nordic countries. I don’t need the car, because the velomobile has been an almost complete substitute to everyday shopping and travel. There is a great need of rethinking how we should stop the climate catastrophe. The pedal power of bikes is one solution.

I use the velomobile for exercise and long distance training; it is important to be in shape, so that I can make a week trip of 200-350 km every day. The average speed of a velomobile is higher than an ordinary bike, 25-40 kph and even higher, but it depends on you, the traffic and the weather. For me the need of electric assistance is highly overestimated, but we will see what happens when I am 90 years old.

I bought my Alpha 7 in the summer of 2021. Now I have reached more than 20.000 km since then. I do every year three to five travels of at least 1000 km and will do one randonneur trip a year. The last completed randonneur of 1542 km was the Pilgrim Brevet from Uppsala to Trondheim and back in 2022. With this velomobile I have learned to do my own service and reparation, because there is 600 km to the nearest service station.

After Eggert Bülk and Jens Buckbesch started the Milan project in 2005 (which is still running successfully today), they started a new velomobile project in 2021, the Bülk-MK1. It implements a new space utilization and aerodynamic concept. The findings from various wind tunnel tests were also taken into account. A velomobile is a human-powered vehicle related to the bicycle, for everyday use, with a body/shell that provides comfort, weather protection and luggage space. Due to the aerodynamically shaped bodywork, you can achieve a decent speed with little effort (30-50 km/h on flat road). Velomobiles are very suitable as commuter vehicles, for shopping or holidays, also are a good way to clear your mind while taking a tour or a road trip with your friends.
