About me

I did a bit of dilettante “sport” cycling in my youth before more or less giving it up during my studies. Originally from Lyon, my first job in Strasbourg came as a shock when I discovered a much more advanced “cycling culture”. Feeling quickly out of place using the car for the few kilometers separating me from my work, I got out my mountain bike of the time. Hardly suited to urban commuting, which was also getting longer as I moved house after house, I set off in search of a more suitable bike.

Being naturally lazy and concerned about my own comfort, I soon discovered the world of recumbent bikes. After trying an electric bike (not reliable enough at the time), I quickly moved on to a tricycle, then a high racer, before switching to the velomobile, which combines all the advantages of my previous bikes: speed, stability, loading capacity, and adds new ones: protection from the elements, and low maintenance.

10 years and soon 3 velomobiles later, I have no regrets whatsoever about this journey, which has enabled me to free myself from the household’s second car, no longer depend on the whims of the SNCF (railway operator) and, above all, to eat chocolate without feeling guilty!

Bülk MK1 Velomobile

After Eggert Bülk and Jens Buckbesch started the Milan project in 2005 (which is still running successfully today), they started a new velomobile project in 2021, the Bülk-MK1. It implements a new space utilization and aerodynamic concept. The findings from various wind tunnel tests were also taken into account. Jens documented every step of the Bülk-MK1 project, then he sent us very detailed info to create a page where you can discover the philosophy of the Bülk-MK1.

What is a velomobile

A velomobile is a human-powered vehicle related to the bicycle, for everyday use, with a body/shell that provides comfort, weather protection and luggage space. Due to the aerodynamically shaped bodywork, you can achieve a decent speed with little effort (30-50 km/h on flat road). Velomobiles are very suitable as commuter vehicles, for shopping or holidays, also are a good way to clear your mind while taking a tour or a road trip with your friends.
