About me
I started riding recumbents in 2004 to counter my inactivity.
I really needed a healthy alternative to my boring desk job that was making me fat and lazy. My new cycling hobby quickly turned into an all-out passion and I started riding more often and a lot further. I was riding century rides, state crossing etc. In 2006, I became part of a racing recumbent team, setting solo records and RAAM Qualified multiple times. At the age of 50, my friends tricked me into doing Ironman Triathlons. Like recumbents, I soon found myself on a sponsored race team.
Although I had raced recumbents and triathlon bikes, my dream had always been to own a velomobile. In 2021 I bought a DFXL and I simple love it. It is an absolute spectacle to ride, with everyone taking pictures, waving and asking multiple questions. The velomobile is also insanely fast and comfortable; I routinely average 27+ mph. I also feel safe inside of it and with proper lighting, I ride late into the nights.
Like some other velomobile owners, I have also found a sponsor for advertising on the side of my velomobile.
Velomobile ownership does have some challenges, it is so fun to ride its worth every bit of it. I hope to be able to help others decide if they should also chase the velomobile dream!

Bülk MK1 Velomobile
After Eggert Bülk and Jens Buckbesch started the Milan project in 2005 (which is still running successfully today), they started a new velomobile project in 2021, the Bülk-MK1. It implements a new space utilization and aerodynamic concept. The findings from various wind tunnel tests were also taken into account. Jens documented every step of the Bülk-MK1 project, then he sent us very detailed info to create a page where you can discover the philosophy of the Bülk-MK1.
What is a velomobile
A velomobile is a human-powered vehicle related to the bicycle, for everyday use, with a body/shell that provides comfort, weather protection and luggage space. Due to the aerodynamically shaped bodywork, you can achieve a decent speed with little effort (30-50 km/h on flat road). Velomobiles are very suitable as commuter vehicles, for shopping or holidays, also are a good way to clear your mind while taking a tour or a road trip with your friends.
