55. Scheeßel - Helmern | 247 KM | HM 1004
The fact that all Dickows had to get up early today was a lucky circumstance for us. So we managed to get up early to make the 240 km home including a detour to Hannover. Boris accompanied us on his commute for the first part.

Then we continued via Visselhövede, Walsrode and Hodenhagen. I spent part of my childhood there and memories came flooding back.
.................
Vogelpark Walsrode (Hodenhagen) is nearby.

At a café we sat separately from our Alphas behind two rectangular flower pots. I.e. not directly next to them. It was very interesting to listen to the conversations and speculations without being spoken to. What could that be? Most of them figured it out on their own. Two young girls, the first one looked in: "I knew they were bicycles. With that disguise you're pretty speedy. That was the first time I heard that from young women.
We had to go to Hanover to pick up our burnt burner and the petrol bottle from the nice family. They had taken it with them for us. That also went surprisingly well to the east of the city. I had BRouter set to 1 for "avoid main routs" and so we rolled through the larger inner-city streets just fine. Perhaps lunchtime meant that there was little traffic.

South near Hannover Fair.
Here, at the latest, the feeling of home came back between Springe and Coppenbrügge.
The Weser bridge near Hagenohsen.
It had become really humid here. On the other side we had another good feed. 3 ice creams on the side, two colas each, 1 cold latte macchiato for me, 2 pieces of pizza, 2.5 litres of apple spritzer for 60 km and a yoghurt drink. Thus fortified, we continued uphill to Löwendorf.
....................
Here we pass Hämelschenburg.
At Welsede, fate wanted to force us to turn back. It had already been announced. But North Cape conquerors can't be stopped. Laughable.
Lügde, my famous one. Once at 00:00 h I turned left around the roundabout and the traffic island so as not to lose my momentum and then found myself in front of a police van.
Arrived at the top much quicker than expected. The last height above 300 m.a.s.l. had still been in the north of Finland. The almost 500 m of Köterberg in the background had been much earlier in Norway.

That was the last day. Home in time for the daytime news. We didn't watch it, but unpacked, drank wheat beer, took a shower and then later the news. What a feeling it was to put on real clothes again and not sportswear with a high plastic content. And then cutting my hair the next day after 8 weeks. Also very cool.
