Rear Suspension: Polyurethane Foam Rings Replacement

Polyurethane Foam Ring Maintenance

The polyurethane foam rings in your rear suspension require periodic replacement as they compress over time. Without proper maintenance, your velomobile will gradually sit lower to the ground. These rings are economically priced and available through our website or authorized dealers.

Maintenance Procedure

The replacement process begins with the upper assembly, where you’ll find two contra-secured nuts preventing loosening from vibration. These require a 13mm wrench and socket or two 13mm wrenches for removal. Exercise caution when working with the plastic nuts, as overtightening can cause damage.

During disassembly, maintain slight pressure to generate friction while removing the second nut. Consult the exploded view diagrams for precise positioning, as workspace constraints may limit visibility during maintenance.

Height Adjustment

After installing new rings, measure the distance from the suspension to the ground. With GP5000 tires installed, this measurement should be approximately 7 centimeters. The adjustment mechanism includes threaded components with contra-tightened nuts. Proper contra-tightening prevents unwanted movement that could result in decreased ground clearance.

Component Configuration

The standard rear suspension utilizes 8 elastomers, though this number may vary based on user preferences and requirements. Riders seeking firmer suspension might opt for fewer elastomers. Three sizes are available to accommodate different weight ranges. Detailed size specifications and weight recommendations can be found through the dealer network.

Assembly Notes

During reassembly, ensure proper placement of all support rings and washers. The system uses contra nuts rather than Loctite, as adhesives are less effective on plastic components. Verify all components are properly secured and contra-tightened before completing the maintenance procedure.
