Christian Winkgen, standing tall at 197 cm, shares how the Alpha 9 changed his velomobile riding life:
For me being 197 cm in height was always challenging to fit „average“ products. I just barely fit into my old DF-XL and had to make many compromises regarding seat position, crank length and choice of shoes and it was always quite tight in every way.
With the Alpha 9 everything changed. The first sporty and lightweight velomobile from Daniel Fenn specifically designed to fit tall people like me was a revelation.
I went on a group ride of 3000 km in 3 weeks through Italy with fellow riders, crossed the Alpes two times, visited Rome, Tuscany and many famous other places. Did my first superbrevets of 1500 km (HBK 2022, Germany) and 1200 (PBP 2023, France) successfully and already ordered and ride the A9.2 because its sizing was even more optimized and better to fit my needs.
Lots of room for touring, quickly removable front wheels for maintenance and accessing the tire, big service hatches in front, axles and back make everything easy to access. I like the wide room around me that lets me move, even partly turn around to fetch things from the rear, the both comfortable but sporty and adjustable suspension, the precise steering and the steady ride that feels like you can even let go of the steering descending fast and with crosswinds.
The super efficient and best-of-class drivetrain and stiffness makes it the best choice for touring, commuting and even racing. And with its smaller siblings M9, w9 and w9s it is basically one concept in four sizes that can fit even the smallest riders of 150 cm up to above 2 m without compromises.
Up till now I have ridden more than 25000 km in the A9.1 and 1500 in the A9.2 already including races, brevets, training and commuting.
