53. Part 2 | Visiting Helsinki (2nd day in Helsinki)

We wanted to see 5 buildings today. First, the Kamppi Chapel. Built of a lot of wood, it stands near the railway station in the pedestrian zone. It was designed as a place of silence. Inside absolutely unadorned. 11 m high. Photographs are absolutely forbidden and there is to be silence. Only a few people go inside.

⬆️ The photo of the interior is an official one from the internet.

.....................................................

No.2 the Glass Palace from the 1930s. The commercial building for shops has large glass windows. We also got a really good cappuccino there.

.........................

.........................

The actual building is the Amos Rex. There are art exhibitions underground. The skylights are accessible from above and tempt visitors to climb them. At night it looks even better.

.........................

.........................

No.3 for me was the Museum of Contemporary Art. Especially the façade.

.........................

⬆️ On the other side, the National Museum.

⬆️ Opposite or next door, an office building.

⬆️ I wanted to use the elevator/lift there, but I wasn't allowed to.

⬆️ There is already the next one.

⬆️ The Oodi Central Library. Opened in 2018. Hold on, the Finns can build. Estimated at 98 million, it is said to have cost 110 million, including furnishings. You can spend days in it.

⬆️ Entrance area.

⬆️ Top floor.

⬆️ Loosening up.

⬆️ To borrow. Yes, exactly.

⬆️ The recording studios are right next door. Photography is only prohibited when musicians are inside.

⬆️ Playrooms are there, meeting rooms, kitchen studio for hire.

⬆️ The library is a real highlight. Terrace, large reading and study room where you can lounge around, eat, drink (no alcohol) all allowed. At one end, the family area with playroom, picture books and high chairs. No photos there please.

.................

⬆️ Coffee, tea and water on each floor. Downstairs lunch as in the restaurant for €12 with soup, main meal, coffee, tea, water. Very tasty.

⬆️ Opposite office. Not bad either.

Then to No.4 the Finlandia (hall) by Alva Aalto. Unfortunately under renovation and packed in. The white Carrara marble must be awesome in winter.

.............

⬆️ So just kept walking along it.

⬆️ Charging station for mobile phone at the lake.

⬆️ Historical greenhouse.

⬆️ No.5 ... Not quite so great ... Olympic stadium from 1952.

⬆️ Another visit to the bike shop opposite. A lot of Bromptons could be bought here and carbon helmets. This would be a must for velomobile riders.
