Day 18 | Dravik - Skoiden Wittgenstein | 99 KM | 676 HM

Today we had a beautiful stretch along the Sognefjord in wonderful weather. To get started, we first took the ferry to Hella.

While waiting, an elderly Norwegian saw that we were looking for some orientation. There were two lanes and two places to go to, and we didn't know how it worked. He explained it to me: take the left lane and drive to the very front of the ferry and exit at the first station. The ones for the second station already turned on the ferry and put them the other way round, because the ferry then drove with the other side towards the second station.

On the ferry just looking around the area. Where is the most beautiful view?

The road was empty and a pleasure stretch. If only slight undulations, slight curves and mostly quite flat. Everything just beautiful.

What surprised me was how much fruit growing there is in here. We had already noticed that in the days before. However, there are almost fruit plantations here, all of which have a perfect southern exposure. There are apples, pears, cherries, strawberries and plums.

Here, while bypassing a tunnel, we found this funny letterbox, or rather bookbox. Hikers sign in there.

Something else interesting. A button in front of tunnels for cyclists. If you press it, all motorists get the signal that there are cyclists in the tunnel. Good.

We had hoped to find open shops in Sognedal, especially a shop with a gas cooker. There were such shops, but they were closed. As were the usual grocers. This was a new experience, because until now there was always at least one open, even on Sundays. Even the petrol stations where you can buy on that were closed. In front of the Sport Outlet, I talked for a while with a young family man who told me about the opening hours. He showed me what other websites there were for second-hand equipment with filters for the area, etc. He said that if he hadn't been there for a while, he would have been able to find it. And he said that if he hadn't moved away a long time ago, he would certainly know the owner and call him and ask him to open up for us. That was just one experience of many. So far they have been very helpful. Likewise the other day in the shop for gardening tools (see photo further ahead).

We met the Frenchman on a climb behind Sognedal.

Grandma and grandson were waiting for us at the top.

Does anyone know what the mats in the tunnels are for exactly? I guess to keep the damp spots.

Now it's getting corny.

The boy was enterprising. Posed like a traffic cop and waved people to his stall. I wondered at first, what does he want.

Arrived. Not quite a hundred, but the next few seats weren't full. And the cruising made me tired too. And that sun. Wittgenstein once lived and thought and wrote here around the corner.

The stream from the waterfall is right next to the square.
