Day 39 | Repvåg - North Cape - Repvåg | 171 KM | 1744 HM

Although the stage route and the altitude difference don't look that bad, it was pretty tough for us. Due to the lack of time, there was no food except for a coffee break on the outward journey in Honningsvåg. Muesli bars and Polly's last resort as emergency rations.

Before the start, the rear wheel was flat. Change the tube again and patch the other one. Better here than on the road.

About 30 km to the tunnel and quite a few uphill sections. The tunnel itself seems endless. 3 km down, 1 km down, 3 km up.

In Honningsvåg have a chocolate and a coffee, plus bratwurst in ham and a waffle with Norwegian caramel cheese. The weather is pretty nasty and a maximum of 8 degrees. On the climbs the rain changed to drizzle plus fog from 150 m on.

Today we could study shades of grey in 1000 different forms.

Then finally arrived after two long climbs. In the photo we have already merged with the destination.

The view from the cape. No visibility. Only fog. We just experienced it the way capes have to be. A challenge and not a beautiful postcard idyll. Sailing ships sank at the capes. Those who had rounded it could breathe a sigh of relief. That's how Cape Horn had been in my youthful view, from what I read about explorers. Today, people drive to the Cape in their luxury womos and drink prosecco under the globe in the bright sun. Nudge nudge. Or in their off-road monster end-of-time camper vans. So I can drive off the beaten track. (That's right, through delicate vegetation.)

We then "ONLY" had to go back and do some shopping. So we did it all again. That was the most exhausting stage so far. About 80 km to Nordkapp and all back again. The long tunnel of 7 km and 212 m with 9% down and up 2x plus the ridiculous hills with the 300 HM climbs, various waves, plus rain, drizzle, fog and 8 degrees already here. Biggi drained both batteries. That wasn't even on Sognefjell or Hardangervidda. I fell asleep for 2 hours right after dinner, even though I wanted to sort out pictures.
