The Alpha W9s is here!

Originally conceived as an even slimmer version of the W9 for smaller and therefore less powerful riders, it even offers space for riders up to 1.83 m tall. This makes it a racing vehicle suitable for everyday use and the spearhead of the Alpha 9 Series, converting low power into high speed.

How we measure the spoke tension

Changing a spoke

Spoke Replacement Guide

Learn the complete process of replacing a spoke in your Alpha Series wheel. This maintenance procedure is considered moderate in difficulty and typically takes between 30-45 minutes to complete. You will need basic hand tools, fresh rim tape, Permabond A113 or similar adhesive, and optionally, a specialized spoke tool for optimal results.

The replacement process begins with proper preparation. First, remove the existing rim tape and locate the broken spoke that needs replacement. Ensure you have a clean work area and all necessary tools within reach before beginning the procedure.

For spoke installation, begin by threading the new spoke through the hub. Route it carefully under the existing spokes, following the established pattern. Apply a small amount of thread locker to ensure stability – we recommend Permabond A113 as a cost-effective alternative to specialized products. Install the nipple and perform initial tightening.

Wheel truing is crucial for proper performance. After installation, mark the replaced spoke for reference. The wheel should be checked for proper balance and the tension adjusted gradually while verifying spoke alignment throughout the process.

The final step involves proper rim tape installation. This requires two complete layers of rim tape for protection. Begin the application near the valve hole and ensure the tape remains centered throughout application. When finishing, cut the tape at a 45-degree angle and create a clean valve hole using an appropriate tool.

Spoke Tension Specifications

Professional wheel building requires precise tension measurements for optimal performance. The target tension range for Alpha Series wheels is between 1000-1200 Newton (102-122 kg). We recommend performing regular calibration checks and maintaining consistent tension across all spokes. Monthly verification of spoke tension helps ensure continued optimal performance.

Important Safety Information

Several key safety aspects must be considered during wheel maintenance. Proper rim tape installation is essential for protecting the inner tube. The valve stem must be correctly aligned to prevent damage. Maintaining appropriate spoke tension is crucial for wheel integrity. We strongly recommend performing regular inspections and always testing wheel true before high-speed use.

Components Overview

The Alpha Series front wheel assembly consists of several key components including the wheel hub assembly, spokes, nipples, rim, double-layer rim tape, valve stem, and appropriate thread locker (Permabond A113 recommended). Each component plays a crucial role in the overall wheel performance and safety.
