Day 32 | Nusfjord - Sildpollnes | 111 KM | 836 HM
Today we got up later and started at 11:00 am. It's nice to have clothes that have been washed properly in the washing machine. Otherwise we take the sweaty clothes into the shower and hang them up afterwards.
First over the small hill and then follow the E10 or Eurovelo 1 (EV1) again. At the crossroads we met the family from Hanover again with our burner in our luggage. The clouds were hanging quite low. Tall drivers might have had their heads in the clouds. On the way once a larger, beautiful area with cotton grass.
Somewhat less frequently, sandy beaches were also to be seen. Every now and then there was a bit of blue sky. Sometimes we also saw turquoise water. The sky doesn't make it look so special, though.
The forest was often birch stunted forest with lots of ferns and blueberries and cranberries.
The flags were to prevent the clouds from making the houses disappear. Then came the tunnel between Flakstadøya and Offersøya. First Biggi in front of me started braking all the time and I just thought, let's roll. Then why are we rolling so hard? The tunnels are not always of good quality in Lofoten. It makes sense to brake so as not to drive too hard into possible potholes. Then a cyclist came towards me and behind him I saw the upward curved line of the ceiling lights. I see, we're going under the sea between two islands. Then I realised that I had to put more and more power on the pedals to make any progress. Without references in the form of lines like the lights, moving objects, etc., or the feeling of more power needed, I lack orientation. Is it up, down or flat? When I came out, it was clear that the gradient was between 7-9%.
The theme today was melancholic landscape and us with a bit of cheer. That can be deduced from the photos.
In Leknes was the only supermarket far and wide open on Sunday. REMA is a real cheap tomb shop. Not nice. Good, but we need something as we had almost nothing left. Lunch break in the REMA car park on a stool-high pile of garden soil. Packed, of course. A man was interested in us and the velomobiles. He was in charge of the cycle path network. He wanted to know how safe we felt. He apologised that it could only be improved little by little. It's amazing what kind of attitude people have here.
Otherwise, a leisurely drive through the coastal landscape.
Oh yes, I thought to myself, "a café would be nice right now". I had probably let the cosmic vibrations of the landscape take me in such a way that I was completely at one with the universe. That's why it granted me this wish on the spot. There it appeared. Rather inconspicuous from the outside, but the tempting sign with åpen Kafe stood by the road. Biggi just said yes. As soon as we got inside, it was a revelation. Cosy and warm, subdued lighting. Calm, quiet music with Al Green.
Cake with garrot (just talk and you know what it is). Coffee as self service from the buffet. You could also bake your own waffles there. With Norwegian cream and red fruits. Then they lit two candles for us. Really awesome. Our impression was that the mum runs the restaurant and café with her daughter and son. It was so cosy that you didn't want to leave in this weather.
Then back to the hard life of travellers. My daughter always says we are travellers and not holidaymakers.
Yes, this beautiful bridge had traffic lights at the top due to a construction site.
A beautifully situated Lofoten Cathedral in Kabelvåg.
The E10 was a bit annoying by now because of the heavy traffic. Previously, we had cycled a long stretch quietly off to the east on cycle route EV1 past the café, among other places. There was now a wide cycle path parallel to the café, but of variable quality. After 2-3 tests we stayed on the road.
Today we had several oncoming cyclists.
Despite a late start, we managed to complete the 100 km. Biggi was so tired today, however, that she disappeared into bed at 20:00 hrs after dinner. Some more Norwegian from the beer can.
